Industrial cooling and ventilation in Fergana
Nowhere else in Uzbekistan puts this much industry and this many people into one basin. Fergana city itself is built around its refinery and the nitrogen fertiliser and chemical plants beside it, Margilan has woven silk for a thousand years and now runs it on modern looms, Kokand at the western end holds chemical works, furniture factories and food plants, and Quvasoy adds cement and glass. Between the towns sit dozens of cotton gins and spinning mills processing the valley crop, plus canning and oil pressing lines that work flat out through the harvest. Buildings tend to be older than in Tashkent, long and narrow with high windows and very little mechanical ventilation. When a gin runs in August the combination of forty degree air, fibre dust and machine heat is genuinely unpleasant, and it responds to supply air cooling and gable extraction better than to anything else.
Fergana climate — the honest version
The Fergana Valley is enclosed by mountains on three sides, which traps summer heat at 37–40 °C while keeping humidity down near 20 percent, so evaporative cooling performs strongly and the same enclosure makes mechanical extraction necessary for any process that puts fume or lint into the air.
The valley is the furthest point inland on this route. Worth knowing locally

- Import clearance is against an O‘z DSt certificate of conformity rather than an EAC mark, since Uzbekistan stands outside the Eurasian Customs Union. The CE file, IEC reports and test certificates supplied with the goods are what the local certifying body works from.
- Cotton lint and fibre dust are the main maintenance issue here. Fit pre filters on cooler inlets and wash the pads weekly during the ginning season, or airflow will fall well below rating within a month.

Extraction and supply air working together. Large Hammer exhaust fans in the gable pull lint laden hot air out continuously, and ducted evaporative coolers push treated fresh air in low down across the working positions, so the building runs at a slight positive sweep from floor to roof. That combination drops working temperatures by ten degrees or more and moves the dust away from operators.
Does added humidity from evaporative cooling harm a silk weaving shed?
Generally it helps. Natural fibres weave better in air that is not bone dry, and Fergana summer air at 20 percent humidity is far below what silk or cotton prefer. Bringing a weaving hall up towards 55 percent while cooling it reduces static, yarn breakage and fly. The one exception is finished goods storage, which should stay on ambient or dehumidified air.
Is the Kamchik pass a problem for delivering large fans into the valley?
It adds time rather than difficulty. The road over the pass is the main link from Tashkent and carries heavy freight daily, though winter weather occasionally closes it and convoys queue. Fans up to 24 ft ship as knocked down blade sets and a hub, so nothing on the load is oversized. Allow a few extra days in the schedule for the crossing.
