Strong fit

Industrial cooling & ventilation for Chile

Chile stretches through more climate zones than most continents, so the same product list cannot serve Calama and Puerto Montt. Ayzair supplies ductable evaporative coolers for the Atacama mining belt and the central valley, HVLS fans for packhouses, wineries and distribution sheds, and hammer exhaust fans for processing plants — all wound for 60 Hz at 220 V or 380 V.

Climate suitability — the honest version

Three climates in one country — the hyper-arid Atacama in the north, hot dry 32–35 °C summers in the central valley, cool and wet in the south

Northern Chile is close to the theoretical best case for evaporative cooling: Antofagasta, Calama and Iquique sit in the driest desert on earth, and mining camps, workshops and change houses there gain a large temperature drop for very little power. The honest constraint is not climate but water — availability and quality both. Central Chile around Santiago and Rancagua has hot dry summers that suit evaporative well. The south, from Concepción to Puerto Montt, is cool and damp, so there we sell ventilation and destratification instead.

  • Chilean mains runs at 60 Hz, 220 V single-phase and 380 V three-phase, against our 50 Hz production standard. We therefore wind Chilean orders for 60 Hz at the specified voltage as part of the build, because fitting a 50 Hz motor here would leave it spinning about a fifth too fast and drawing power beyond its rating.
  • SEC approval applies to electrical equipment in Chile. We provide the technical file, test reports, wiring diagrams and CE, IEC, LVD and EMC certificates needed to support the SEC submission, and recommend starting it in parallel with manufacturing rather than on arrival.
  • In the Atacama, water is the deciding factor — not heat. Desalinated or high-salinity supply scales pads and corrodes tanks quickly, so we ask for a water analysis and then specify pad media, bleed-off and cleaning intervals accordingly, or recommend HVLS fans where water simply is not available.

Ask on WhatsApp
How well does evaporative cooling perform in the Atacama?

About as well as it can anywhere. Antofagasta, Calama and Iquique sit in the driest desert on earth, so the wet-bulb depression is very large and a ductable cooler drops supply air temperature dramatically for roughly 2 kW. The limit is water rather than climate, which is why we always confirm supply volume and water quality before recommending a system for a mine site.

Why does water quality matter so much?

Because evaporative cooling concentrates whatever the water contains. Northern Chilean sites often run on desalinated or high-salinity supply, and without an adequate bleed-off rate the dissolved solids scale the pads, choke airflow and corrode the tank within a season. We set pad grade, bleed rate and a cleaning schedule from an actual water analysis, and we will say so if the water makes evaporative the wrong choice.

What do you recommend for the south of Chile?

Different products entirely. From Concepción to Puerto Montt the climate is cool and wet, so cooling is not the problem — salmon plants, sawmills and cold stores need moisture and heat extraction plus destratification under high roofs. We specify hammer exhaust fans and HVLS fans for those sites, and we do not quote evaporative coolers where the air is already saturated.
