Industrial cooling and ventilation in Izmir

Izmir spreads its industry along two axes. North along the gulf lies Aliağa, where the electric arc steel mills, the refinery and the ship recycling yards create heat and fume on a scale nothing else in the region matches. East on the Kemalpaşa road sit Kemalpaşa OSB and Torbalı, thick with food processing, olive oil, canning, packaging and building products. Atatürk Organised Industrial Zone at Çiğli carries lighter engineering, cosmetics, plastics and textiles, and Menemen adds the plastics and metal casting estates. The city also ships a great deal, so distribution sheds ring the whole arrangement. What works here is a split approach. Ducted evaporative coolers do useful work in the drier inland zones at Kemalpaşa and Torbalı, big ceiling fans cover every roof height from a packing hall to a steel bay, and heavy wall extraction is unavoidable around the Aliağa furnaces.

Izmir climate — the honest version

Aegean summers push Izmir to 35–38 °C through July and August with humidity usually in the 40 to 55 percent band, drier than Marmara but not desert air, so an evaporative cooler returns a genuine five to eight degree drop inland while the coastal strip sees rather less.

Sailings from Nhava Sheva reach Izmir Alsancak or the Aliağa terminals in about 18 to 24 days · Kemalpaşa, Torbalı and Çiğli are all inside an hour of the quay by road.

Worth knowing locally

  • Supply is 380 V three phase 50 Hz throughout the Aegean industrial zones, matching the motors as built, so no rewinding or voltage conversion is involved.
  • CE marking under the EU Machinery Directive is recognised in Turkey by virtue of the Customs Union, and food plants in Kemalpaşa usually also ask for the stainless fixing option and the washdown notes that accompany the declaration of conformity.
  • Food and olive oil processors buy before the autumn campaign rather than in high summer, so enquiries cluster in March and April for equipment wanted on site by June.

Ask on WhatsApp
Does evaporative cooling perform better inland than on the Izmir coast?

Yes, noticeably. At Kemalpaşa and Torbalı, twenty five kilometres from the water, afternoon humidity often falls to 35 or 40 percent and a duct cooler delivers a six to eight degree drop. Close to Alsancak and Çiğli the sea air is damper and the same unit gives perhaps half that, so we specify fans first there.

What ventilation suits an Aliağa steel or recycling yard?

Large wall mounted exhaust fans working against roof ridge openings. Hammer exhaust fans up to 1750 mm shift the volumes that furnace and cutting operations create, pulling fume across the bay and out rather than letting it rise and settle. HVLS fans then serve the adjacent stores, workshops and rest areas where comfort rather than extraction is the point.

How much water does a duct cooler use in a Kemalpaşa food plant?

An 18,000 to 30,000 CMH unit typically consumes 25 to 60 litres an hour depending on ambient dryness and fan speed. Mains water is fine if reasonably soft, and a bleed off line keeps salts from building on the pads. Compared with a chiller of similar coverage, electrical demand is around two kilowatts rather than tens.
