Industrial cooling and ventilation in Lyon
Lyon sits at the hinge of the Rhône corridor and its industry runs the length of it. Corbas and Saint-Priest carry distribution and engineering, Vénissieux holds heavy vehicle and machinery assembly, the Vallée de la Chimie south of the city concentrates chemical and pharmaceutical plant, and Isle d’Abeau with Saint-Quentin-Fallavier forms one of the largest logistics clusters in France. Vaccine and biologics production west of the city adds tightly controlled buildings with heavy extract loads of their own. The climate cuts both ways here. Winter is cold enough that a 12 metre warehouse wastes a serious share of its gas on the roof void, while the canicule now pushes 38 to 40 °C into buildings that were never designed for cooling at all. Lyon is also drier in July than northern France, so ducted evaporative cooling over a packing line or a loading apron gives a real temperature drop here, unlike in Lille or Antwerp.
Lyon climate — the honest version
Lyon has a semi-continental climate with frosty winters that keep warehouses heated from November to March and summers that now deliver canicule episodes of 38 to 40 °C in air noticeably drier than the Channel coast, which gives both winter destratification and summer evaporative cooling a genuine role.
The shortest route is Nhava Sheva to Fos-sur-Mer in about 17 to 22 days, then 300 km north up the A7 to Lyon in a single day; cargo routed through Le Havre takes 20 to 26 days at sea plus a longer inland leg.

Worth knowing locally
- French industrial supply is 400 V three phase 50 Hz, so equipment is connected as supplied with no transformer, and each HVLS fan arrives with its own variable frequency drive.
- France applies the EU regime, so CE marking with a Machinery Directive declaration of conformity is what customs and the site safety file require, along with the LVD and EMC evidence we ship as standard.
- Ducted evaporative cooling needs a water supply and a drain at the unit and works best with fresh air drawn from outside, so it belongs over loading bays, packing lines and assembly areas rather than in sealed clean rooms.

Ask on WhatsAppDoes evaporative cooling really work in the Rhône valley?
It works better here than anywhere further north in France. Canicule afternoons combine high temperature with relative humidity often in the 30 to 40 percent band, which is enough wet bulb depression for a ducted cooler to deliver a useful drop in supply air. It is still a summer product, so most Lyon buyers put fans in first and add coolers where people work fixed positions.
What do you recommend for a chemical or pharmaceutical site near the Vallée de la Chimie?
Standard equipment suits warehouses, packaging halls, workshops and utility areas. It does not suit classified explosive atmospheres, because our motors are not ATEX rated. Where a zone classification applies, that part of the building needs rated equipment from a specialist and we will say so rather than quote. Clean areas usually need ducted supply rather than open ceiling fans.
How do HVLS fans behave in a heated Lyon warehouse in January?
They run slowly and reverse the loss. Warm air from unit heaters or radiant panels collects under the deck, and a fan at low speed brings that column down the walls and across the floor without any felt draught. Most sites see the floor to ridge difference collapse to two or three degrees, and the heating plant then cycles far less often.
