Industrial cooling and ventilation in Calgary

Calgary is the one place in our Canadian list where we will put a pad cooler in the quotation without hedging. Chinook country air is dry, and a July afternoon at 32 °C and 25 percent humidity gives an honest 10 °C of depression inside a fabrication shop. That said, the larger and steadier business is winter. Foothills Industrial Park and Dufferin North are full of energy services workshops, pipe threading, valve rebuild and machining operations in tall bays where heat collects uselessly at the deck. Balzac and Rocky View County have absorbed the newer regional distribution buildings serving all of Western Canada, and agriculture, feedlots and food processing sit immediately beyond the city limits. The practical package is large fans running slowly in reverse from October to April, extraction over welding and paint, and evaporative cooling where a summer shift genuinely suffers.

Calgary climate — the honest version

Calgary summers are short but genuinely dry, reaching 30–33 °C in July with afternoon humidity frequently under 30 percent on the foothills, while winter drops to −30 °C, which splits the year into a long destratification season and a real if brief evaporative window most Canadian cities never get.

Vancouver is the working port at 30 to 36 days from Nhava Sheva, then Calgary is 1,050 km inland, about 12 hours by truck over the Rockies or three to four days on CP intermodal to the Calgary ramp · winter road closures on Highway 1 occasionally add a day.

Worth knowing locally

  • Alberta shops run 208 V or 600 V three phase at 60 Hz, with 347 V common on lighting circuits. We wind to 50 Hz by default, which is exactly why Calgary units are never shelf stock: they are made for the order with 60 Hz motors at the declared voltage.
  • Electrical equipment must carry CSA or cUL certification to be accepted by an Alberta inspector. Ayzair obtains that certification through an accredited body for each order, and we will not ship equipment into the province without it in place.
  • Specify cold rated grease and confirm the minimum start temperature if a fan sits in an unheated bay. Standard lubrication is fine to about −20 °C, below which a cold start on a 24 ft fan draws far more current than the nameplate suggests.

Ask on WhatsApp
Does evaporative cooling really work in Alberta?

For roughly eight to ten weeks of the year, yes. Prairie summer air is dry enough that a pad cooler behaves much as it would in northern Mexico, giving 9 to 12 °C off supply air on a hot July afternoon. We present it as a secondary product rather than the main case, because the equipment sits idle nine months of the year and the winter argument is far stronger.

What happens to an HVLS fan in an unheated winter workshop?

It still does useful work whenever heaters run, moving the warm layer down instead of letting it sit at the ceiling. In a genuinely unheated bay the fan is simply parked for winter. Where temperatures fall below −20 °C we supply cold rated bearings and grease and recommend a soft start, since a cold gearbox and a 24 ft blade set together draw a heavy starting current.

Can you supply ventilation fans for feedlot and livestock buildings?

Yes. The Hammer range runs from 200 mm to 1750 mm and covers the large diameter, low pressure duty that livestock barns and feed handling buildings need, including corrosion resistant finishes for ammonia laden air. Send building dimensions, stocking density and target air changes and we return a fan schedule rather than a single model recommendation.
