Industrial cooling and ventilation in Laguna (Calamba)

If the Philippines has a manufacturing spine, it runs through Laguna. Laguna Technopark at Biñan, Carmelray Industrial Park 1 and 2 at Canlubang, and the Light Industry and Science Park estates hold automotive component plants, semiconductor assembly and test, precision moulding, electronics and a large cluster of Japanese owned suppliers, while Cabuyao, Santa Rosa and Calamba carry beverage, food and pharmaceutical plants and the warehouses that serve them. Occupancy is high, plants run multiple shifts, and the estates are laid out with modern tall sheds rather than the improvised buildings common closer to Manila. That makes the engineering conversation straightforward. Production halls need overhead air movement to keep operators working steadily, warehouses and despatch bays need destratification and extraction, and paint, solder and moulding areas need extract rates matched to the process rather than guessed at.

Laguna (Calamba) climate — the honest version

Laguna lies inland from the bay at the foot of Mount Makiling, which gives 31–35 °C and humidity in the high seventies to high eighties with less sea breeze than the coast, so buildings heat up and stay hot and the useful gains come from air change and mixing rather than cooling.

Laguna has no port of its own. Containers land at Batangas Port, about 70 km south, or at Manila and come down the South Luzon Expressway · 14 to 19 days sailing from Nhava Sheva or Chennai plus a day inland · Batangas is usually quicker to clear and avoids Metro Manila truck ban hours.

Worth knowing locally

  • Estate supply is 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase, but the frequency is 60 Hz and that is the detail importers overlook. Confirm it on the purchase order and the motors are manufactured to 60 Hz from the outset, with nameplate and test data to match.
  • Goods require the ICC mark or a PS licence from the DTI Bureau of Philippine Standards before sale. Many Laguna estates also run their own contractor and equipment approval process, and the CE declaration with IEC and EMC reports normally satisfies both.
  • Several estates restrict hot work and roof access to planned windows, so fan installation at 12 metres is usually booked into a scheduled plant shutdown. Ordering three months ahead of that window avoids paying for a second mobilisation.

Ask on WhatsApp
Can HVLS fans be used in a semiconductor plant in Laguna Technopark?

In the support buildings, yes. The conditioned fabrication and assembly areas are on their own filtered air systems and must stay that way, but the incoming and finished goods warehouses, tool cribs, maintenance workshops, packing halls and loading canopies are all unconditioned and are where the heat complaints come from. Those are the spaces large diameter fans are specified for.

Why do you insist on knowing the frequency before quoting?

Because the Philippines is one of the few markets in this region on 60 Hz while the rest of Asia runs 50 Hz. Fan power rises steeply with speed, so a 50 Hz motor spun 20 percent faster draws far more current than its plate says and fails early. Building the motor for 60 Hz at the factory costs nothing extra and removes the problem entirely.

What extraction suits a moulding or soldering area?

Local extract at the source comes first, and inline jet duct fans from 100 to 315 mm are the right size for boosting those runs where duct resistance has grown or a line has been extended. General building extraction then handles residual heat and fume with Hammer exhaust fans sized to the air change rate, and an HVLS fan above prevents the remaining heat sitting on the operators.
