Industrial cooling and ventilation in Barranquilla

The contrast with the capital could hardly be sharper. Where Bogotá is cool and still, Barranquilla is hot, sticky and windy, and every plant on the Magdalena estuary is built around that fact. The Vía 40 corridor running parallel to the river holds chemical works, beverage plants, cement and steel handling and a long line of older sheds converted into warehousing. Zona Franca La Cayena and the Barranquilla free zone carry newer export oriented manufacture, while Malambo and Galapa to the south have absorbed the heavier plastics, metal and food operations that outgrew the city itself. Puerto Colombia adds port service and logistics floor space along the shore. In this climate a cooler is a poor purchase, since air already carrying 80 percent moisture cannot take much more. Overhead fans keeping air moving across people, and extractors clearing heat and fume from the roof, are what make these buildings workable.

Barranquilla climate — the honest version

Barranquilla sits on the Caribbean coast where the thermometer holds 33–35 °C for most of the year and humidity runs 70 to 85 percent with only the sea breeze offering relief, a combination that flattens evaporative performance and makes bulk air movement and extraction the working answer.

Vessels reach Barranquilla or nearby Cartagena from Nhava Sheva in 28 to 35 days, and because Vía 40, Malambo and Galapa lie a short drive from both terminals, delivery follows release inside a day.

Worth knowing locally

  • The Atlántico grid carries 110, 220 and 440 V at 60 Hz, and motors are wound and tested at 60 Hz for this coast because a 50 Hz machine would run fast and hot on that supply.
  • RETIE certification applies to the finished installation while the import itself passes the DIAN customs channel, so the supplier declaration and test reports are included in the shipping file for the certifying engineer.
  • Trade winds funnel hard down the river mouth from December to March, so roof and wall extractors are positioned with the prevailing direction in mind and free standing floor fans are ballasted rather than simply parked.

Supplying Barranquilla — common questions

Cannot find what you need? Call +91 80871 10156 or WhatsApp us — an engineer, not a call centre, picks up.

Ask on WhatsApp
Why not a duct cooler for a Vía 40 warehouse?

Because the coast is close to saturated. At 34 °C with humidity near 80 percent an evaporative unit lowers supply air by only two or three degrees while raising moisture inside the building, which is the wrong trade where stock is stored. Two or three large ceiling fans covering the same floor produce a far stronger perceived effect for comparable power.

How many HVLS fans does a 3,000 sq m shed need?

A 24 ft fan covers roughly 1,200 sq m and a 16 ft fan around 600 sq m, so a 3,000 sq m building is typically served by two 24 ft units plus one 16 ft unit in the awkward corner, all mounted at six metres or higher. A layout drawing is prepared from your column grid, roof height and racking plan.

Does Barranquilla have its own port for direct delivery?

It does. The Magdalena river terminals take direct calls and Cartagena an hour and a half away handles the deeper vessels, so Atlántico buyers have a genuine choice of entry point. Either way transit from Nhava Sheva runs 28 to 35 days, and the inland leg to Malambo, Galapa or Vía 40 is measured in minutes.
